On 12 August we took an evening train and slept in Alexandria. A same-day loop around a glazed visit is a story, not a card. At 07:40 on 13 August we were at Pompey’s Column — granite, a footing you can walk, a monument a mason can actually measure. Adel keeps a short tape for jobsites. He measured the plinth, not because the number would surprise anyone, but because measuring is how a mason looks. We stayed until 09:20. Coffee. The Bibliotheca Alexandrina at 10:35. Salma treated the small antiquities rooms as the day’s house and left the reading halls after a slow circuit because the collection, not the disc as architecture, was the strike we had written. A second night. Morning train. Cairo at 14:10 on 14 August. Nothing filed that afternoon. The mortar was already set, in a good way.
